How to Pair Lithium Cells and Batteries with Your System
Lithium cells are a great addition to high-performance systems, especially when paired correctly. Here's how to ensure optimal performance and longevity from your lithium battery setup.
Placement Matters
Lithium cells, such as our 6-pack or 12-pack combos, should be used as a secondary battery. These cells are not insulated to withstand under-hood temperatures, so they are best installed in the trunk of a vehicle or the back of a truck. Keeping them away from extreme heat ensures safety and extends their lifespan.
Optimal Charging Voltage
For the best performance, lithium cells (specifically 40AH, 35AH, and 45AH models) require a charging voltage in the 15s, with the optimal spot being around 15.5 volts. While it’s possible to run them on a stock charging system at 14.8 volts, you won’t achieve the same level of performance as at the higher voltage.
Simple Installation with Long-Term Benefits
Installing lithium cells as a secondary battery is straightforward. By following the installation instructions, you can expect years of reliable performance. In fact, we’ve seen cells still running strong 8 years after their debut. Their safety features are hard to beat. In worst-case scenarios, the vent on the end of the cell may pop, releasing some electrolyte (which smells like nail polish) or the performance may drop off quickly. Either way, they are designed to mitigate severe risks.
Enhance Performance
To maximize the potential of your lithium cells, consider pairing them with the following products:
LI1408 Charger: This charger fully charges LTO cells to 15.8 volts, ensuring the best longevity and performance.
PWR S6 BCI Models: Options like the PWR S6-3400, 4800, or 5100 are excellent choices for under-hood batteries.
Mechman Alternators: Upgrading to a high-performance alternator can raise your system’s charging voltage, unlocking even greater performance from your lithium cells.
By pairing these products with your lithium cells, you’ll create a robust, high-performing system built to last.
