B2 Audio SixTen & SixTwelve DSP Complete Guide

Setup, Bluetooth streaming, app control, saving settings, firmware updates, reset procedures, and troubleshooting.

This guide covers setup, Bluetooth audio streaming, DSP app control, saving and loading settings, firmware updates, resetting the DSP, and common troubleshooting for the B2 Audio SixTen and SixTwelve DSP models.

Compatible DSP Models

Important: Some procedures in this guide, especially the Android firmware update, are specifically for the SixTen DSP. Do not install SixTen firmware on a SixTwelve unless B2 Audio specifically confirms compatibility.

Bluetooth Audio vs. Bluetooth DSP Control

The SixTen and SixTwelve include two separate Bluetooth functions. Understanding the difference is important when connecting your phone.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming

This connection allows you to play music wirelessly through the DSP. You do not need the DSP control app to use Bluetooth audio.

The streaming Bluetooth device will normally appear as:

Car Music_xxx

Bluetooth streaming can be used with devices including:

  • iPhone
  • Android phones
  • Tablets
  • Compatible Bluetooth transmitters

Bluetooth DSP Control

The DSP also uses a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection that allows the SixTen DSP Bluetooth Control app to communicate with the DSP.

This connection is used for DSP control and tuning, including:

  • Equalization
  • Crossovers
  • Channel configuration
  • Filtering
  • Output control
  • Preset saving and loading
You can stream music and use the DSP control app at the same time. The streaming and control connections operate separately.

How to Stream Music Through Bluetooth

  1. Turn on the vehicle and make sure the DSP is powered.
  2. Open the Bluetooth settings on your phone or other device.
  3. Locate the DSP audio streaming connection, normally shown as Car Music_xxx.
  4. Connect to the device.
  5. Open your preferred music application.
  6. Play music normally.

No additional software is required for Bluetooth audio streaming.

SixTen / SixTwelve DSP Control App

For DSP tuning and configuration, download the official SixTen DSP Bluetooth Control app.

The app provides control over functions including:

  • DSP output channels
  • Equalization
  • Crossovers and filtering
  • Channel configuration
  • Preset saving and loading
  • Real-time tuning while music is playing

Download the App

Download on the App Store ``` Get it on Google Play ```

How to Connect the DSP Control App

  1. Make sure the DSP is powered on.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your phone or tablet.
  3. Open the SixTen DSP Bluetooth Control app.
  4. Press the chain-link icon in the upper-right corner.
  5. Select your DSP from the in-app device list.
  6. Enter the DSP password.

The default password is:

000000

Once connected, you can begin configuring EQ, crossovers, filters, outputs, presets, and other DSP settings.

How to Properly Save Your DSP Settings

Making an adjustment in the app does not necessarily mean that adjustment has been permanently stored in the DSP.

If settings appear to disappear after the DSP loses power, or a previously configured channel returns to an older configuration, verify that the setup was properly saved to Device Memory.

Saving Settings to Device Memory

  1. Make your desired adjustments to gain, EQ, crossovers, filters, routing, and other settings.
  2. Open Preservation in the DSP control app.
  3. Select the Device Memory slot where you want the configuration stored, such as Memory 1 or Memory 2.
  4. Remember that selecting the memory slot alone does not save the configuration.
  5. Press Save under Device Memory.
  6. Your current configuration is now stored in the DSP internal memory.
Important: Switching memory slots is not the same as saving to that slot. Always use Preservation > Device Memory > Save after making changes you want the DSP to retain.

Properly saved Device Memory settings should remain stored even after the DSP completely loses power.

Device Memory vs. Local Config

Device Memory

Device Memory stores the configuration inside the DSP itself.

Use Device Memory for the tune that you want the DSP to retain and use during normal operation.

Local Config

Local Config stores a configuration on your phone or mobile device instead of inside the DSP.

Local Config is useful for:

  • Backing up a tune
  • Maintaining multiple configurations
  • Saving different vehicle setups
  • Working with multiple DSPs
  • Restoring a previously saved configuration

For normal operation, make sure your final tune has also been properly saved to Device Memory.

SixTen Android Firmware Update

Firmware updates may be released to correct DSP behavior or improve functionality.

The firmware procedure below is specifically for the B2 Audio SixTen DSP using an Android device.

The firmware packet packet_AT32_AirplusP10_1.0.15 addresses known issues including the Butterworth 12 dB crossover setting.

Step 1 – Download the Required Files

Both files must be saved directly on the Android device and not only in cloud storage.

Step 2 – Install the Firmware Update App

  1. Locate FirUpdate.apk in your Android Downloads folder.
  2. Open the APK file.
  3. If Android requests permission, allow installation from the appropriate unknown source.
  4. Complete the installation.

After installation, the firmware update application should appear with a headphone icon.

Step 3 – Open the Firmware Update App

  1. Open the application using the headphone icon.
  2. Allow the application to access files on your device when prompted.
  3. Select Firmware Update for BLE v1.0.6.

Step 4 – Load the Firmware

  1. Use the headphone icon within the update application to locate the firmware.
  2. The application should search your device for the packet_AT32_AirplusP10_1.0.15 firmware file.
  3. Select the firmware file.

Step 5 – Connect to the SixTen

  1. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your Android device.
  2. Make sure the SixTen DSP is powered.
  3. Connect to the SixTen through the firmware application's BLE connection.

Step 6 – Install the Firmware

  1. Once the DSP is connected, press Update.
  2. Allow the firmware to upload completely.
  3. Do not close the application.
  4. Do not turn off the DSP or vehicle while the firmware is being installed.
  5. Wait for the update process to complete.
Do not interrupt power to the DSP or close the firmware application during the update.

How to Reset the DSP and Bluetooth Connection

If you are experiencing problems reconnecting the DSP to the control app, perform a complete Bluetooth and DSP reset.

  1. Delete the SixTen DSP Bluetooth Control app from your phone.
  2. Open your phone Bluetooth settings and forget/remove the DSP Bluetooth devices.
  3. Restart or power-cycle your phone.

  5. Reinstall the SixTen DSP Bluetooth Control app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
  6. Before opening the app, reconnect to the appropriate Bluetooth/BLE device.
  7. Remember that Car Music_xxx is used for audio streaming, while the BLE connection is used for DSP control.
  8. Open the DSP control app.
  9. Connect to the DSP.
  10. Enter the default password 000000.

Troubleshooting

DSP Does Not Appear in the Control App

  • Verify that the DSP is powered.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
  • Restart the DSP or vehicle audio system.
  • Close and reopen the DSP control app.
  • Verify another phone or device is not currently controlling the DSP.
  • Make sure you are using the appropriate Bluetooth/BLE connection for DSP control and not only the audio streaming connection.

If the problem continues, perform the complete DSP and Bluetooth reset procedure above.

One Speaker or Channel Is Weak, Silent, or Intermittent

If one channel is significantly quieter than another, completely silent, or only works intermittently, do not immediately assume the DSP hardware has failed.

1. Check the DSP App

Verify the following:

  • Balance is centered.
  • Correct inputs are routed to the affected output.
  • The affected channel is not muted.
  • Channel gain is properly configured.
  • EQ settings are appropriate.
  • Crossover and filter settings are correct.
  • The proper preset or memory configuration is loaded.

2. Save the Configuration

After correcting the settings, use:

Preservation > Device Memory > Save

Do not simply switch memory slots.

3. Swap Left and Right RCA Outputs

Swap the left and right RCA connections at the DSP.

If the problem moves to the opposite speaker or channel, the issue is likely upstream of the amplifier and may involve the DSP configuration, DSP output, or RCA connection.

If the problem stays on the same speaker or channel, continue troubleshooting downstream components.

4. Test the RCA Cables

Replace or swap the affected RCA cable with a known-good cable.

5. Isolate Other Components

If the system uses a line-out converter (LOC) or another signal-processing device, temporarily bypass it when possible.

Testing components individually can help determine whether the problem originates from:

  • The source or LOC
  • The DSP
  • RCA cables
  • The amplifier
  • Speaker wiring
  • The speaker itself

6. Check Presets and Memory

Make sure a previously stored preset is not overwriting your current configuration.

After making corrections, save the working tune to Device Memory and allow the system to play for several minutes to verify consistent operation.
